In the Year of the Horse Bound/ Bamboo 2012
This installation is inspired by the quote, "...one thousand buckets of tears for one who binds her feet..." Foot binding which began as young as the age of three was an extremely painful process of tightening the 2 inch wide by 10 feet long binding of cotton or silk every two to three days. The four smaller toes were tucked under the big toe and were, essentially, broken and eventually, the "golden lotus" or 3 inch foot was achieved.
