This is a photograph of my 33 year old mother and 4 year old brother, probably on a Sunday evening after visiting my maternal grandparents and family in Chinatown. They are sitting on the sleeper couch that was opened and closed every night and morning because we lived in the 10' x 14' back room of my father's Chinese hand laundry until I was 7 years old.

My always fashionable and stylish mother sewed her own clothing as well as the clothing for the children. My sense of color, pattern and texture of textiles, sewing, embroidery, knitting and crocheting came from my mother as my sense of form, structure, construction, organization, welding and sculpture came from my father.
